Ross Township Police Hire Two Officers
Patrolman Daniel Papale and Patrolman Justin Allenbaugh
Patrolman Daniel Papale and Patrolman Justin Allenbaugh were recently sworn in as Ross Township Police Officers by Magistrate Richard Opiela. Ptl. Papale previously worked as a sergeant with the University of Pittsburgh Police Department and Ptl. Allenbaugh previously worked with the Crafton Police Department.
Ross Township Police Commendations
Officer Donovan and Officer Devenyi were given the Certificate of Commendation
On 9/22/12, Ptl. Ryan Donovan and Ptl. Balazs Devenyi investigated a hit and run crash that occurred on McKnight Rd. The victim had followed the suspect vehicle to a nearby apartment complex. During their interaction with the suspect driver, his actions and conduct arose suspicion and concern from the officers. During the course of the encounter the suspect driver defied the officers’ verbal directions and began to physically resist. While attempting to restrain the driver, they found that he was attempting to draw a concealed handgun. The officers were able to physically control the driver, secure the firearm and safely affect the arrest. This encounter took place in very close proximity to the hit and run victim, as well as unsuspecting nearby residents. The officers’ diligence, quick reactions, and perseverance enabled them to prevent a deadly encounter. Their actions were in keeping with the highest standards of law enforcement, as well as those of the Ross Township Police Department.
Officer Garcia was given the Department's Life Saving Award
On 9/19/12, Ptl. Gregory Garcia monitored another police unit being dispatched to assist EMS with a reported 65 year old male who was not breathing. Ptl. Garcia determined that he was closer to the call than the assigned unit and responded. Upon his arrival at the scene, he found the victim to be unresponsive and in full cardiac arrest. Ptl. Garcia immediately updated incoming units, began CPR and utilized his Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Ptl. Garcia’s actions resulted in the victim surviving the attack. His quick response, decisive action and application of training brought a positive outcome to an otherwise tragic event.
Ross Township Police Promotions
The Ross Police Department would like to congratulate the following officers who were promoted this evening:
Sgt. Joseph Ley was promoted to Lieutenant. Lt. Ley has been with the department for 22 years and has served as a Patrolman, Det ective, Patrol Sergeant, and lastly as the Sergeant of Detectives. Lt. Ley will be assigned as the Operations Lieutenant, overseeing the daily operations of the police department.
Sgt. Albert Hribik was promoted to Lieutenant. Lt. Hribik has served with the Ross Police Department for 22 years. Lt. Hribik served the last 14 years as a Patrol Sergeant on the daylight shift.
Patrolman Joseph LaMonica was promoted to Sergeant. Sgt. LaMonica has served with the Ross Police Department since 1994. Sgt. Lamonica has been previously assigned as a Field Training Officer and also served as a Detective specializing in forensic investigations.
Patrolman Randall McAllister was promoted to Sergeant. Sgt. McAllister is currently in his 13th year serving with the Ross Police Department. Sgt. McAllister has spent the last 10 years assigned to the Detective Division. Sgt. McAllister is also a member of the North Hills Special Response Team.
